Plan responses to Gantt changes

Changes made to your plan through the Gantt chart have some intelligence built into them to help reduce the amount of manual input required.

You can make changes by dragging and dropping visits, or by editing the visit details. When you make these changes, Fleet Planner updates the due dates of all future instances of any impacted tasks. The logic, as much as possible, attempts to schedule visits nose to tail.

Note: To make changes to the plan, you must be in Edit mode.

Note the following plan responses to changes made to the Gantt chart:

  • If you move a visit or increase its span to overlap another visit on the same track, the existing visit will:
    • Bump to the left when the moved plan start date falls before the midpoint of the moved visit.
    • Bump to the right when the moved plan start date falls after the midpoint of the moved visit.
  • If you move a visit to overlap two visits that are already scheduled nose to tail, the existing visits make space for a visit between the two existing visits. Depending where you place the visit start date, the existing visits move right and/or left to make space. For example, if you overlap the earlier of the two visits by two days, it starts two days earlier, and the trailing visit starts later.

  • Locked visits cannot be bumped. They remain where they are scheduled. However, other visits will overlap it if they are manually moved.
  • Empty visits are ignored and other visits can overlap them.
  • If a bumped visit contains only an ad hoc task, that task is ignored and other visits will overlap it.
  • If you drag a visit over a non-working day, the visit end date is extended to maintain the number of working days. If you drag a visit so that it no longer spans a non-working day, the end date is brought forward to maintain the number of working days.

  • If you drag a visit over a black-out day, the visit span will NOT change.

  • You cannot move a visit such that tasks will be out of sequence.
  • To retain your changes, you must save your plan.
  • Any changes made in the Visit Details window will be visible to other users when you click save.
